Baby II Update

I had a very quick appointment yesterday. The nurse said my blood sugar looked OK, and we heard the heartbeat. I have lost about 2 pounds since the last visit. The nurse said that we will start the non-stress test (NST) stuff in about 2 weeks.

Ellie went with me and watched Cars while keeping a nervous eye on the nurse. She kept telling me that she did not want to see the doctor.

Next appointment: Next Monday, May 3rd

Fixin' Lightnin'

Tuesday, Jason found some old toys with a little life left in them by the side of the road. Ellie is now totally engrossed in fixin' Lightnin'. Just call her Handy Ellie, Lightning McQueen's new pit boss.

P.S. Can you tell that Cars is our evening movie every night? We hit the door in the afternoon...and the first thing I hear is "Watch Tars? Watch Tars, Momma?"

Note...bruise under eye...compliments of the car door :)

Baby II Update

I had another quick appt. on Friday. After looking at the information from the lab, the doctor said he walked in prepared to start me on some "oral agents" to control high blood sugar. He said that I would be the first that he had put on oral agents...and he said that being the first is never a good thing.

However, he looked at my week of journaling and decided to wait one more week. The numbers that I am getting are elevated...but they aren't extremely high. He said since I am such a compliant patient that he will let me try to control this through diet. So for now...bye-bye bread...and pasta...and cookies...and anything else that tastes good!

So far, I have gained 9 pounds, and my blood pressure is fine. We heard the heartbeat, and then I was dismissed for another week. Next appt: Monday, April 26th.

Whistlin' for Clearance

Usually when we get home, Ellie comes in the house and immediately takes her shoes off. About two weeks ago, she started coming home and taking her pants and diaper off as well.

She has had a few accidents on the floor, and we would scold her for it. Last week, she began to realize what was about to happen and started asking to "pee more." We would rush to the bathroom and she would pee in the big potty. This has now been going on each night this week. Once it gets started, we go "pee more" about every 5 minutes until she gets occupied with something else! It's a little trickle each time and an "All done." Of course, flushing the potty is the fun part :)

On Saturday, I bought some Woody pull-ups and she will sorta wear those, but she still likes to be naked :)

Last Thursday and yesterday, she had that kind of accident on the floor. After listening to me moan and groan about having to clean it up, I think it started sinking in that poops goes in the potty too! Tonight, after much hemming, hawing, and pooting, she pooped in the little potty for the first time!! She then climbed in and out of the bathtub about 20 times to "pee more."

This is progress, folks! And yep...I never thought I would find myself describing the newly found bathroom habits of my kid on the Internet! Now...off to get it on video!!!

Baby II Update

Another doctor's appointment yesterday...and my results were in from the 3 hour glucose tolerance test. Ummm...the numbers were not good at all. As a matter a fact, the numbers from all 4 blood draws were bad. My fasting glucose was high at 102, and then 1 hour later my blood sugar was 212. I don't recall the exact numbers of the other 2, but they were high for that time period as well.

I had the nurse look at the glucose levels from when I was pregnant with Ellie. Two of the four were out of range. All the doctor had me do then was to check my blood sugar and monitor my diet.

So...for now...I am to check my blood sugar 4 times a day and record the information. I have another appointment next Monday. If things don't look any better, then the next step is insulin :(

The nurse checked the heartbeat and measured the fundal height. Everything appears to be fine.

Baby II Update

Well...I failed the 1 hour glucose tolerance test that I during Spring Break week. So, with newspaper and book in hand, I spent Thursday morning at the doctor's office. I was subjected to the torture test they call the 3 hour glucose tolerance test.

First, the nurse drew blood at 8:30 so that they could test my fasting blood sugar. Then...OH YUMMY!!!...I drank 12 oz. of orange kool-aid. Blech!!! Then, the nurse came back at 9:30, 10:30, and 11:30 to draw more blood samples so that they can see how my body is metabolizing the sugar. Yeah!!! 4 sticks!!

Once the juice kicked in, I could barely keep my eyes open. So, I spent most of the morning asleep in the doctor's office. They have had a small upgrade since I did this last time: a nice comfy leather chair with ottoman in a back room. Last time with Ellie...I slept in the waiting room.

I have another appointment Monday afternoon and the results should be back by then.
